Kangaroo Island (PENNESHAW, KI, AUSTRALIA)

Where in the World Are We?

We are on Kangaroo Island, Australia

PENNESHAW,
KANGAROO ISLAND, AUSTRALIA
Gateway to Kangaroo Island’s Natural Wonders
Kangaroo Island is, with 1,740 square miles, the third-largest island off the coast of Australia. It is 96 miles long and 34 miles wide, and is known for its outstanding natural beauty. Due to its remote location, Kangaroo Island was less affected by the impact of European development than the mainland. To this day, the island is rich in diverse flora and fauna seldom found elsewhere. As one of the world’s last unspoiled wilderness places, about 30 percent of the island has been designated as National Parks. The most important one is Flinders Chase at the western end of Kangaroo Island, with Seal Bay Conservation Park following close behind. Its large sandy beach and dune area is home to Australian sea lions, where they come to rest and nurse their young. Kingscote, formerly known as Queenscliffe, is the largest town on the island and its main supply depot. Tourism is a significant element in the local economy. A mix of attractive small townships, wildlife sanctuaries, and fascinating wilderness areas guarantees a steady stream of visitors each year.
Hog Bay Beach
Hog Bay Beach is a stunning stretch of white sand framed by turquoise waters, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and leisurely strolls. Its calm shoreline offers a serene escape, while lucky visitors may spot playful dolphins gliding nearby. A favorite for families and nature lovers, this beach captures the essence of Kangaroo Island’s coastal beauty.
Frenchman’s Rock
Frenchman’s Rock stands as a historic tribute to French explorer Nicolas Baudin’s 1803 landing, etched with inscriptions that tell a story of early maritime exploration. Surrounded by rugged coastline and sweeping ocean views, this landmark offers a peaceful spot for reflection and photography, blending cultural heritage with the natural splendor of Kangaroo Island.
Excursion – Pennington Bay & Historic Kingscote
We experienced the coastal beauty of Kangaroo Island and the legacy of southern Australia’s oldest European settlement.
Pennington Bay, South Coast, Kangaroo Island Beaches, Kangaroos
Driving to Kingscote, a photo stop is made at Pennington Bay. We took in spectacular panoramic views of Pennington Bay, the rugged south coast, and the beautiful beaches of Kangaroo Island. During your drive, look for local kangaroos often seen lazing in the paddocks.

Kingscote, Free Time, Reeves Point, Bay of Shoals
Upon arrival, in Kingscote, southern Australia’s oldest European settlement and the largest township on Kangaroo Island,
approximately two hours of free time was made available to explore the main street, browse the local shops, and/or relax with a
refreshing drink in a local café at your own expense. We learned about the history of Kangaroo Island, and pass by historic
Reeves Point, the point of South Australia’s first settlement, and the scenic Bay of Shoals.
