Dima and Sasha are professional dancers from Kyiv, Ukraine. They have competed throughout their
homeland and Europe since age 9, in Ballroom and Latin competitions. In 2008 Dima became Ukrainian Latin Dance Champion, followed by Sasha who has won it 3 times and is a two-time finalist in the Euro-Latin formation team.
On Television, Sasha appeared on “So You Think You Can Dance” (Ukraine 2010) where she become a finalist showcasing her various styles of contemporary dance, Jazz, and Hip-Hop.

Maputo is not known for being the capital of Mozambique, but also for the buzzing vitality that is unfound elsewhere in Africa. The end of 15 years of civil war in 1992 saw an economic uprising and visitors to Maputo today are just as likely to come for the busy bars and restaurants as they are to enjoy colonial architecture worthy of the Mediterranean.
Maputo is different from other cities in the region. It’s magical. There is a storybook quality to the city, an almost palpable belief that someday Maputo will be recognized as the leading city it is. And nothing – not the floods nor the drought that plagues so
many other parts of Africa will be able to stop it. Glimpses of this self-confidence are everywhere, from the lively music that spills out onto the street to the eccentric belief that building a cast iron house in Africa was a good idea.
Head for the town square to see the latter for yourself. Formerly known as Lourenco Marques, the city was named after a Portuguese explorer who landed here in 1544. Most of the city’s infrastructure (and architecture) was destroyed
during the war years, but thankfully a few must-see places remain. The train station – often incorrectly attributed to Gustave Eiffel, is one of the world’s most beautiful buildings, a large-domed, green and white steel structure that would look more at home in Lisbon.
The gleaming white Roman Catholic cathedral, the neo-classical City Hall, and the French-Mozambican cultural center are all also top of sightseer lists.
RAILWAY STATION
An architectural highlight of Maputo, the Railway Station was built during 1908-10 and designed by engineer Alfredo Augusto de Lima. The remarkable bronze dome, created especially for this building, was constructed in South Africa and its assembly was an innovation for that time.

Departing the harbor, passing the beautiful Train Station which, built-in 1910 by Gustav Eiffel, of Eiffel Tower fame, is definitely an architectural highlight of Maputo. We then proceed to the local Maputo market for a glimpse of how the locals barter for a variety of goods and foods. Independence Square is a focal point in the city is the Praca de Independencia or Independence Square. Around it are a statue of the country’s first president, Samora Machel, the gleaming white Roman Catholic cathedral, the neo-classical City Hall, and the French-Mozambican cultural center, a splendid old colonial building that has been tastefully restored and now presents art exhibitions. You also saw a house made entirely out of iron – very impractical for the hot African summers.
The Museum of Natural History has a wide range of African wild animal life, many of which are staged showing the hunting and killing of prey by predators. The museum is famous for housing the only elephant fetus in the world amongst a host of other interesting artifacts.
Next, we visited Maputo Fort, one of the most visited attractions in the city. It was originally built in 1721 and destroyed and rebuilt by local people. Our visit looked into the past, reliving old stories of corsairs and sailors.

Jon Fleming’s combination of personal experience and historical knowledge, plus an entertaining presentation style has made him very sought after in the Cruise industry. He has sailed on over 250 cruises worldwide including Silversea’s last 9 World Cruises.
Over the last sixteen years, Jon has lectured on over 500 cruise destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Australasia, and the Pacific. He has an informal and humorous lecture style that aims to make history interesting, accessible, and relevant for his audience, without bombarding them with dates and facts.
Jon was born in London, and studied Modern History at York University. After university, he pursued a successful career in marketing, before deciding to get out of the rat race and devote himself to travel full-time either by cruise ship or at the other end of the luxury scale, in a camper van with his wife Tracy.
His interest in travel was sparked by a two-month train trip around Europe when he was 18, and he has been looking for excuses to travel ever since! Our adventure continued with an early morning wakeup call for tea and coffee and one more game drive. We finally found the lions we had been tracking for three days. The morning was outstanding seeing many of the top animals as if they turned out to bid us farewell. On return to the lodge, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before collecting our belongings and checking out. Enjoy our photo journal.

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA: A CULTURAL COMBINATION FROM ASIA, AFRICA, AND EUROPE
What is it about South Africa’s third most popular city that draws people so much? Is it the vibrant waterfront, complete with street performers and sand artists? Is it the melting pot of ethnicity, with all cultures from Zulu to Indian finding a home here? Is it the laid-back lifestyle that has locals calling it simply “Durbs”? Is it the sweeping landscape? The clement climate? One visit to Durban will quickly make you see the reason people love it so is a combination of all of the above.
Durban has always been a beach city but it was the massive investment for the 2010 World Cup that really put it on the map. A huge revamp of the promenade has brought with it some fantastic eateries which serve up all kinds of “chow” from traditional bunny chow to bobotie, (a sweet spiced mince dish with an egg topping). Expect Asian influences wherever you go, too. Durban has the largest Indian population outside of India. Although there is little evidence, it is known that the city of eThekwini – Durban in Zulu – was inhabited by hunter-gatherers as early as 100,00 BC. It was first sighted by Vasco de Gamma in 1497, but it was not until 1824 that the British settlers raised the Union Jack. This was after King Shaka gifted a “25-mile strip of coast a hundred miles in-depth” to Henry Francis Fynn after Fynn helped him recover from a stab wound. It remained part of the British Commonwealth until 1960, when it became part of the Republic of South Africa. The city’s Euro-African heritage remains to this day.

DAY TWO – WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2ND, 2022 – PHINDA FOREST PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
We awoke early this morning and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a rusk before heading out on our first-morning game drive. After a 3-hour game drive, we returned to the lodge for a hearty breakfast followed by a free morning to enjoy time around the pool.
We enjoyed a light lunch at the main lodge followed by more free time and a siesta prior to our afternoon game drive. Tea was served on the patio after which we departed on a late afternoon game drive. These are conducted in 4-wheel drive open vehicles, allowing for total freedom of movement and the ability to leave the road and track down Africa’s Big Five – Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant, and Buffalo. After dark, spotlights are used, providing one with the opportunity to view nocturnal creatures and
carnivores on the hunt. Sundowners and light snacks were served at a clearing in the bush. We returned to the lodge for a delicious dinner and overnight.

RICHARDS BAY, SOUTH AFRICA – GATEWAY TO ZULULAND
Considered as the official gateway to Zululand, Richard’s Bay has morphed from being a tiny fishing village into a bustling harbor town. Today, the 30 km2 lagoon is the major port of the region and also the deepest in Africa, a growth spurred on by the significant mineral deposits, wonderful wetland scenery, unspoiled beaches, and game reserves.
Located on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, Richards Bay was founded in 1879.
British Rear Admiral Sir Frederick William Richards eponymously named the port after landing there during the Anglo-Zulu colonial wars.
Despite its superlative natural setting, Richards Bay was long considered a southern African backwater, with as little as 200 residents as recently as 1969. This number grew when it was proclaimed a town, but even today it is relatively underpopulated, with fewer than 60,000 calling the province home.
The town’s Zulu heritage is omnipresent so be sure to look out for the local arts and crafts. Nearby Zulu village Dumazulu is the only Zulu village to be opened up to tourism by King Goodwill Zwelithini, and the only authentic example of Zulu traditions that foreigners are allowed to into.
If African culture is not your cup of tea, the hinterland offers fascinating flora and fauna, including a chance to see the
incredibly rare white rhino along with the bucket list Big Five.
Richards Bay’s attractions can be found closer to port too – the 350 kilometers of coastland, also known as “Dolphin coast”, are a joy for divers and beach lovers alike.

VOYAGE OVERVIEW
We enjoyed 2 glorious days in the bush at Phinda Private Game Reserve with 2 mornings and 2-afternoon game drives in search of not only the Big 5 animals but numerous other wildlife- & birdlife. Phinda Private Game Reserve is home to Africa’s Big 5 and diverse bird watching with approximately 400 different species. We saw all the Big 5: Lion, Leopard, White Rhino, Cape Buffalo, and Hippopotamus; and of the elegant yet elusive cheetah as well as the rare black rhino (only 5,000 in existence).
DAY ONE – TUESDAY, MARCH 1ST, 2022 – RICHARDS BAY/PHINDA FOREST PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
Phinda Private Game Reserve is situated in the lush Maputaland region in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Bordering the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park – a World Heritage Site – Phinda comprises 17 500 hectares (43 240 acres) of prime conservation land. Seven distinct habitats shelter an abundance of wildlife including Africa’s Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, black and white rhino, buffalo) and over 380 bird species, while the marine diversity off the nearby coast of Sodwana is said to rival the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
Following a 2-hour bus transfer from Richard’s Bay Harbour to Phinda Private Game Reserve we arrived at the main entrance gate of Phinda. We were met by a guard who called the Lodge to sent three open-air 4 x 4s Land Cruisers to pick us up and continue a 10-minute ride to Phinda Forest Lodge. Phinda Forest Lodge is nestled inside 1,000 hectares (2,471 acres) of Africa’s last remaining dry sand forest and is one of the world’s first eco-designed luxury safari lodges.
Set in a rare and beautiful sand forest, the glass walls of Phinda Forest Lodge’s 16 air-conditioned suites offer a sweeping view of one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet. A dense canopy provides privacy, and floor-to-ceiling windows invite the forest in, with the wonderful opportunity to view wildlife roaming outside your glass “bubble”, fluttering birds nesting in the foliage, and the gentle rustle of forest sounds.
On the edge of the forest, just before a clearing that overlooks a small waterhole, lies the lodge’s sparkling rim-flow swimming pool, an ideal respite in between game drives. Expansive decks in the spacious guest area, look out onto panoramic views of an open grassy meadow. In the evenings, when warm firelight welcomes you to the traditional African boma, wide-eyed bush babies watch inquisitively from the trees above, as you indulge in a lantern-lit feast beneath a canvas of stars.
We checked in on arrival and our luggage was taken to our suite. Each glass-walled suite is separated from each other by about 100 yards creating our own private sanctuary. Following lunch, we enjoyed the free time in our suite to freshen up and enjoy our surroundings. We gathered in the main lodge for afternoon tea prior to our sunset game drive and returned to the lodge for dinner.

If you choose to visit southern Chile’s ominous volcanoes, its celestial glacial lakes, and its mountainous national parks, you will most likely be visiting Puerto Montt, the capital of the Lakes District and the region’s commercial and transportation hub.
Puerto Montt has a plethora of exit points – the Navimag ferry departs from here – and is a fine spot for a meal (several of the region’s best restaurants are here). For most of its history, windy Puerto Montt was the end of the line for just about everyone traveling in the Lake District. Now the Carretera Austral carries on southward, but for all intents and purposes, Puerto Montt remains the region’s last significant outpost, a provincial city that is a hub for the nation’s salmon farming industry as well local fishing, farming, and forestry.
Today the city center is full of malls, condos, and office towers (it’s the fastest-growing city in Chile) but away from downtown, Puerto Montt consists mainly of low clapboard houses perched above its bay, the Seno de Reloncaví. If it’s a sunny day, head east to Playa Pelluco or one of the city’s other beaches. If you’re more interested in exploring the countryside, drive along the shore for a good view of the surrounding hills.

PARQUE NACIONAL ALERCE ANDINO
Close to Puerto Montt, the mountainous 398-square-km (154-square-mile) Parque Nacional Alerce Andino, with more than 40 small lakes, was primarily established to protect the endangered alerce trees that are spread out upon some 20,000-hectares (49,421 acres) of the park.
MANDATORY ANTIGEN TEST IN CHILE
As a compulsory requirement of the Chilean Healthy Authorities protocol, all guests were obliged to undergo a COVID-19 antigen test every 48 hours for re-entering Chile. The tests were completed under the guidance of the expert onboard Medical Team. Although we had another “Panoramic Bus Tour” where we were not allowed off the bus, the colorful city and Chile’s stunning Lake District, an area of incredible natural beauty, full of rolling fields, glistening lakes, and awesome volcanoes, look amazing even from a bus window.

PORT ELIZABETH, SOUTH AFRICA THE FRIENDLY CITY
Port Elizabeth or PE is an uncut gem of a destination. Loved by wealthy South African families as a holiday destination, it is a city has of faces. One: a natural haven with unspoiled beaches, rolling sand dunes, and the warm Indian Ocean lapping at your feet
and two: a post-industrial migrant city with a rich heritage. PE is also called Nelson Mandela Bay, and there is much here that celebrates him starting with Route 67, a collection of 67 artworks honoring the 67 years that Mandela dedicated to achieving South Africa’s freedom.
Known as “the friendly city”, Port Elizabeth is enjoying an urban regeneration, spurred on by the youth of the region that wants to put it (back) on the map.
Think vibrant creative projects spilling out wherever you go; a pedestrianized central zone, galleries selling local artworks, restaurants serving South African fusion food, award-winning buildings that house museums, restored Victorian terraces.
Unsurprisingly, the boardwalk is buzzing. PE’s proximity to the excellent nature parks at Addo and Lalibela makes it an ideal destination for game lovers. Both of these parks are a little way from PE (70 and 90 kilometers east respectively) but both offer a chance to revel in South Africa’s no holds barred natural beauty. This is the real reason why people come to South Africa –
for a chance to see the fabled Big Five. Addo even boasts the Big Seven (lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard, as well as the great white shark and Southern right whale).

Our Morning Excursion: ADDO ELEPHANT PARK
The Addo Elephant Park, which consists of + 51 000 ha of the bush country is the home to over 450 elephants, which have been bred from the few that remained in the area after the herd was almost wiped out by the hired game hunter Major P.J. Pretorius in the 1920’s.
We departed from the pier and cross the Swartkops River then turned inland to the flat valley of the Sunday River and arrive at the Addo Elephant Park after traveling for about one hour.
Although it belongs to the same species like the African Elephant, the reddish Addo Elephant is smaller with more rounded ears, while the females generally have no tusks.
On our game drive through the park in 4×4 open vehicles we encountered other wild game including hyena, cheetah, zebra, eland, kudu, red hartebeest, and wild dogs. Also quite notable is the unique flightless dung beetle.
We departed from the pier and crossed the Swartkops River inland to the flat valley of the Sunday’s River and arrived at the Addo Elephant Park after travelling for about one hour.

On a game drive through the park in 4×4 open vehicles we saw elephants up close and personal in several different environments from hidden in the bush, to open savannahs, watering holes, bathing ponds, and mud holes. This elephant skin is sensitive to the sun and used water and mud to cool down. Then they use trees to scrape the mud off.
There were a few zebras and were able to photograph some in the Necking Pose.
Also quite notable is the unique flightless dung beetle. Just after an elephant poops the male beetle swoops done and rolls up a ball of poop. Dung beetles can move dung balls weighing up to 50 times the animal’s own weight. The male offers the female a giant-sized brood ball. If she accepts it, they roll it away together or the female rides on top of the ball. They must watch out, though, as other beetles may try to steal their ball! The new pair finds a soft place to bury the ball before mating. The male then leaves to find more partners. The female stays to make another brood ball or two and lays a single egg in each. She then coats and seals the ball with a mixture of dung, saliva, and her own feces and stows it underground.
Ancient Egyptians used the image of the dung beetle, or scarab, in their religious artwork and jewelry. Ancient Egyptians thought very highly of the dung beetle, also known as the scarab (from their taxonomic family name, Scarabaeidae). They believed the dung beetle kept the Earth revolving like a giant ball of dung, linking the insect to Khepri, the Egyptian god of the rising sun.
After the excursion we returned to the quayside in Port Elizabeth to have Fine Dining at The Restaurant.
